Regional APP - Rochester, NY


The Regional APP will work on behalf of both general and subspecialty neurosurgery providers, under the direction of the Vice Chair of Regional Neurosurgery. This role involves significant guidance and training to manage outpatient clinics independently, both in-person and via telehealth. The APP will travel to regional sites 5-8 days per month to offer subspecialty clinics, coordinate diagnostic imaging, laboratory testing, and procedures, and perform postoperative follow-ups and preoperative workups. Responsibilities include obtaining comprehensive history and physicals, prescribing medications, educating patients and families about cerebrovascular disease processes and treatment plans, and participating in the education of learners in regional settings.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct outpatient general and subspecialty neurosurgery clinics for patients outside of Monroe County.
  • Manage outpatient clinics independently after training.
  • Collaborate with neurosurgery provider care teams.
  • Travel to regional sites 5-8 days per month for subspecialty clinics.
  • Obtain comprehensive patient histories and physicals.
  • Coordinate and follow up on diagnostic imaging, laboratory tests, and procedures.
  • Perform physical examinations, diagnostic tests, and postoperative follow-ups.
  • Complete preoperative workups and consent patients.
  • Communicate diagnostic results to providers and patients.
  • Prescribe medications and support pre and post-treatment planning.
  • Educate patients and families on cerebrovascular diseases and treatment plans.
  • Update families about procedural timelines and outcomes.
  • Document patient care in electronic medical records.
  • Respond to patient questions and concerns.
  • Participate in the education of learners in regional settings.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Obtain and maintain certification for Moderate Sedation, BLS, ACLS.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to make independent decisions in managing complex patient care.
  • Commitment to providing quality patient care in a fast-paced environment.
  • Current NYS PA/NP license.
  • Current certification from NCCPA (for PAs) or AANPCB (for NPs).
  • National certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in the use of the EPIC electronic medical record system.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • Willingness to travel to multiple locations 5-8 days per month.
